Our mathematics curriculum reflects eight content areas that will be taught as an integrated whole. Students will develop their ability to solve problems and reason logically. Calculators and computers will be used as a means for problem solving and exploring numerical relationships. Our curriculum is based on the Scott Foresman-Addison Wesley Middle School Math textbook. Technology is an integral part of mathematics. In each chapter a web address is included making the math book a dynamic link to an ever-expanding universe of knowledge. Our student objectives for the eight content areas are:

  •  Numeration - developing operation, number sense, and an understanding of ratio, proportion and percent.
  • Operation/Computation - use estimation strategies, demonstrate inverse relationships and interpret graphs, tables and charts.
  • Geometry - develop an understanding of geometric objects and relationships.
  • Measurement - develop estimation and actual measurements skills using standard and metric units.
  • Probability and Statistics - use statistical methods and make predictions based on data.
  • Fractions and Decimals - understand, represent and use numbers in equivalent forms.
  • Patterns, Relationships and Functions - extending number and geometric patterns and identify mathematical properties.
  • Algebra - understand the concepts of variable, expression and equation. Relationship of negative numbers to real life experiences.
